The TASH Project presents a special community screening of The Pendulum, a film and research project exploring the experiences of African-Caribbean communities within health and social-care systems.
Presented by ADIRA, the event creates space for conversations about mental health, discrimination, racism, social exclusion and the barriers that people from ethnically diverse communities can encounter when trying to access appropriate care and support.
The TASH Project stands for Telling Adira’s Story of Health and Social Care Service Harms, and this Sheffield event will provide an opportunity for audiences to engage directly with stories and experiences that are too often overlooked.
Rather than approaching these issues only through statistics or institutional policy, the project centres lived experience, using film to illuminate the human impact of health inequalities and experiences within care systems.
The project considers subjects including mental ill health, discrimination, racism, culturally specific abuse, domestic abuse, stigma and inequality.
The screening provides an opportunity for African-Caribbean communities, health and social-care professionals and other interested audiences to come together around difficult but important questions about trust, access and culturally appropriate support.
Lunch will be provided, and psychological wellbeing resources will be available because of the sensitive nature of some of the material discussed.
Taking place during Black History Month, The Pendulum — The TASH Project is an important example of community-led creative health work, using film to encourage reflection and meaningful conversations about improving care.
