Born in San Francisco but long resident in London, David Katz is author of People Funny Boy: The Genius of Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry; Solid Foundation: An Oral History of Reggae, and Caribbean Lives: Jimmy Cliff. His writing and photographs have appeared in many international publications and he has annotated over 100 retrospectives of Jamaican music, while his Dub Me Always reggae vinyl nights are a regular feature of London’s musical landscape.

Back in the Day is a monthly event organised by Alan Morrison. The events combine anecdotes and published work capturing the spirit of musical genres from the recent past.
