Harlem in Mayfair, Black History Walk

Interactive walking tour of the hidden African/Caribbean history in London’s posh Mayfair area from 1920s to 2020s.

 

Mayfair is not traditionally associated with the Black presence but there is a great deal there. We will explore and expose multiple, fascinating examples, from African spirituality to 20th century superstars. We will cover:

  • Black owned business and high society in the 1940s
  • Ancient African goddesses
  • The Kenyan, South African, Zimbabwean connections
  • Secret aristocratic inter-racial lovers and their legacies
  • Rich and famous Black men of the 1930s
  • Legendary African Americans and their UK reception

  • Colour bars, jazz, swing and amazing dancers
  • Nigerian composers and Caribbean band leaders
