CBSO plays Bartók’s Concerto for Orchestra

A burst of fireworks, a shout of joy – Bartók was ill and in exile when he wrote his Concerto for Orchestra, but he poured all his fiery spirit into the ultimate showpiece for a symphony orchestra at the top of its game.

 

First, though, a trip to France: where Ravel conjures a fairytale world, and CBSO favourite Alban Gerhardt stars in Saint-Saëns’ elegant, ardent concerto.
