Giving Black Social: Music, Food & Community for Sickle Cell Awareness brings people together during Black History Month for an evening combining music, food and community with an important health message.
Organised by Nourishment in association with the Sickle Cell Society, the event aims to increase awareness of sickle cell while encouraging more people from Black communities to consider becoming blood donors.
Sickle cell is an inherited blood condition that disproportionately affects people from African and Caribbean backgrounds. Regular blood transfusions can form an important part of treatment for some people living with the condition, making donations from ethnically matched donors particularly valuable.
Giving Black uses a social and accessible environment to encourage conversations that might otherwise feel clinical or difficult.
Rather than focusing solely on health information, the evening combines awareness with music, food and community connection, helping audiences understand how simple actions such as becoming a blood donor can make a direct difference to others.
The event also provides an opportunity for organisations, campaigners and individuals affected by sickle cell to connect with members of the wider community.
