Celebrate Black History Month with a vibrant day of literature, storytelling, creativity and conversation honouring the Black African and Caribbean diaspora.
Presented by Go Africa Community Hub CIC in partnership with Islington Libraries, Go Africa Open Book will transform the library into an intergenerational cultural space where books become a gateway to heritage, imagination, identity and belonging.
Taking place under the theme #HonouringOurCommunities, the programme will bring together children’s and adult authors, storytellers, families, readers, artists, historians and members of the wider community.
Visitors can enjoy children’s storytelling and creative workshops during the day, followed by an evening gathering featuring Black authors and cultural voices.
The event will celebrate the people who have preserved the community’s stories while supporting those who are writing its next chapter.
Special guests are expected to include Sola Alegbe, author of JUMP; children’s author Dr Loretta Chindo-Besong; Garfield Robinson of Promoting Our Heritage; and Simon Hudson, associated with History Through the Black Experience.
Throughout the event, visitors will have opportunities to discover authors, explore African and Caribbean stories and perspectives, and take part in conversations about history, heritage and representation.
Go Africa Open Book forms part of the wider Go Africa Takeover – Black History Month 2026 and Go Africa Community Hub CIC’s continuing work to address inequality through culture, health, enterprise, literature and community participation.
The event’s central message is simple: our stories matter, our histories matter and our voices matter.
The venue is wheelchair accessible. Step-free access to the Tall Stories Studio is available through its entrance on Holloway Road, and accessible toilets are located on the ground floor. Assistance dogs are welcome.
