Today Brixton Is Locked Off: The Day Black Lives Matter Shut Down Brixton

Monday Oct. 25 2021, 6-9pm

Video-led presentations by history consultant Kwaku which tells of a little-known stand-off between BLM protestors & the police in 2016

In the summer of 2016 a BLM protest locked down Brixton for over six hours without major incident – which probably why it has hardly covered, because there was no violence! History consultant Kwaku captures this moment and other African-led street demonstrations in and out of Brixton in a video mash up.
The post-screening session asks whether street demonstrations are the only way of bringing awareness to African causes. It will also explore how young heads can learn from the elders in order to strategise their activism, and whether there are any succession plans?
Video mash up by Kwaku. Music by The Robotiks, produced by Mad Professor
