Ah-Free-Ka: Combating Whiteness In The Black Imagination! By Dr William ‘Lez’ Henry

May 11, 2019 - 17:00 - 20:00

On Saturday 11th May 2019, Black History Studies in association with Dr Lez Henry will present ‘Ah-Free-Ka: Combating whiteness in the Black Imagination! by Dr Lez Henry.

In the cosmology of the Kamites (Ancient Egyptians) the Ka was the ‘life force’ that distinguished the dead from the living person, some-times depicted as a ‘second image’ that complements the living entity. Crucially the Ka had to be nourished, fed and watered, as the moment of death occurred when the Ka left the physical body. In this talk I will argue that our minds are being fed a poisonous diet of ‘all things whiteand beautiful’ that appear to be healthy/normal/natural, that help explain so many manifestations of Black self-hatred that impact our communities on a daily basis. In doing so I will suggest ways we can combat this lived reality by feeding our Ka with a knowledge of an African-self that is liberating and uplifting. All that is asked is that you bring your mind and make sure it is open! Hotep
