Accompany your child/ren to our African History of Sport Family Workshops!Learning as a family encourages, enables and empowers parents to develop a deeper understanding of how to expand your children’s learning at home. Family learning raises academic achievement; and enhance family wellbeing.

Make History come to life with an ‘African History of Sport’ workshop led by Charmaine Simpson of Black History Studies. Children will experience learning about different areas of sporting history; and will be able to explore the evidence of sports played in Ancient Egypt, and other Nile Valley Civilisations. Children will be able to use different learning styles to solve problems, as they work in teams, enjoy themselves, AND learn African History.

The workshops are based on ‘The African History of Sport’documentary, produced by the Institute of Black Culture, Media and Sport, in 2017. You don’t need to have seen the film to attend this course.

The course consists of three workshops covering different areas of sport. This course is aimed at young people from 6 years – 16 years.

The workshops will take place at New Chances, 399 High Road, Tottenham, London, N17 6QN. Approx 10 mins walk from Seven Sisters Station (Victoria Line) or Bruce Grove (Underground). Free on street parking from 6.30pm. Buses 41, 123, 149, 230, 243, W4, 318, 341 stop nearby.

Each workshop will last two hours. The dates and times for the workshops are below:

  • Workshop 1: Saturday 1st February 2020 from 10.30am to 12.30pm
  • Workshop 2: Saturday 8th February 2020 from 10.30am to 12.30pm
  • Workshop 3: Saturday 15th February 2020 from 10.30am to 12.30pm

Please arrive at 15 minutes before each session for registration. Workshops will starts promptly.

The cost of this course is below inclusive of materials and handouts:

  • One adult and one child – £65.00
  • One adult and two children – £85.00
  • One adult and three children – £105.00
