The First Woman by Jennifer Nansubuga Makumbi follows Kirabo on her journey to become a young woman and to find her place in the world, as her country is transformed by the dictatorship of Idi Amin. Jennifer has written a sweeping tale of longing and rebellion, at once epic and deeply personal, combining an intoxicating mix of ancient Ugandan folklore and contemporary feminism.

 

Jennifer is a Ugandan novelist and short story writer acclaimed for her prize-winning first novel, Kintu, she lives in Manchester with her family where she lectures in Creative Writing at Manchester Metropolitan University. Join her to discuss her new novel.
