Great Big Live Assembly: Black History Month 2026 – Primary Schools invites primary schools across the UK to come together for a special online event celebrating Black history, community and positive role models.
Organised by the Sanctuary Foundation, the assembly is designed specifically for primary-age pupils and provides teachers with an accessible activity that can be incorporated directly into the school day.
Hosted by BAFTA-nominated children’s television presenter Gemma Hunt and author and speaker Dr Krish Kandiah OBE, the programme will also feature Black role models and special contributors sharing stories and experiences with young audiences.
The assembly will explore the 2026 theme Honouring Our Communities, encouraging pupils to think about the people who make a difference within families, neighbourhoods, schools and wider society.
Black History Month provides schools with an important opportunity to introduce pupils to stories and achievements that have not always received sufficient attention within mainstream history.
Through an engaging and age-appropriate format, the Great Big Live Assembly helps schools begin conversations about contribution, identity, respect and community.
Because the event takes place online, schools from across Britain can participate together without the need for travel or additional venue costs.
