Join us ONLINE for the launch of “Nothing About Us Without Us” for womxn of African Caribbean heritage in Lothian on December 9.

 

KWISA and NHS Lothian Maternity Voices Partnerships welcomes families of African & Caribbean descent living in and around the Edinburgh Lothian area ( including West Lothian, East Lothian and Midlothian) for the launch of ” Nothing About Us, Without Us”.

Birth and pregnancy are safe in Scotland. Yet the statistics show that women of African heritage continue to endure more negative outcomes and experiences for themselves and their babies during and after pregnancy and birth.

We want to change this, and we need your help.

*Womxn of African and Caribbean heritage are individuals with ancestral ties to African & Caribbean countries continent, regardless of nationality.

*This initiative addresses the well-being of individuals assigned female at birth who may identify as women, non-binary or trans. This is whom we collectively refer to with the term womxn.

WHAT IS THIS ABOUT?

” Nothing About Us Without Us” is an important initiative led by Black women to promote positive pregnancy outcomes and experiences for Women of African Caribbean heritage* in Lothian by using culturally sensitive and empowering community education, participation and co-production.

Our objective is to provide free health education workshops and amplify the voices, dialogue and participation amongst African and Caribbean heritage communities in the design and delivery of maternity services in Lothian.

WHEN IS THIS HAPPENING?

Free events will be held across multiple sites across Edinburgh and West Lothian throughout November and December.

  • 11/11/23- KWISA Office, Greyfriars Charteris Centre.
  • 17/11/23- Project Esperanza, 1 Waterfront Ave, Edinburgh EH5 1SG
  • 2 /12/23- Kidz N Kin Community Space, Livingston shopping centre
  • 9/12/23- ONLINE event

HOW

Our events will be free and held in safe, child-friendly spaces. Food and transportation costs will be covered.

  • Delicious and nourishing food & drinks will be provided
  • Please keep a copy of your receipt and bus/train tickets to allow us to cover the cost of your transportation.
  • Women, men and gender-expansive individuals are all welcome
