Pleasantview with author Celeste Mohammed

Monday 18 October 2021

Join Celeste Mohammed for a night in Trinidad via the lives of the Pleasantview people.

Celeste Mohammed is a lawyer and writer who has been telling stories all her life. A native of Trinidad and Tobago she now lives in Massachusetts, USA. Celeste’s goal is to showcase the musicality and resonance of Trinidadian creole (Kriol).

Coconut trees. Carnival. Rum and coke. To many outsiders, these and other sunny images are all they know about life in the Caribbean. However, if you want to learn how the locals truly live and experience the dark and often harrowing truths that lurk behind the idyllic imagery of Caribbean culture, then come visit the town of Pleasantview. This book has already been lauded as a landmark work in international fiction.
