Wolverhampton Grand Theatre presents Upfront Comedy, a high-energy stand-up showcase bringing together established names, diverse voices and emerging talent for a special evening curated for Black History Month 2026.
The line-up features Richard Blackwood, Shazia Mirza, Michael Akadiri and Kyra Gray, with the evening hosted by Shabba Kariem.
Richard Blackwood has built a long career across comedy, television, acting and presenting, becoming one of the most recognisable Black British entertainers of his generation. His mix of observational humour, personality and stage presence has made him a familiar figure to audiences across the UK.
Shazia Mirza is known for sharp, intelligent comedy that often explores identity, culture, politics and social expectations. Her work has taken her across the UK and internationally, earning praise for a fearless approach to contemporary issues.
Michael Akadiri brings a fast-paced and engaging style to the stage, while Kyra Gray adds another distinctive voice to a line-up designed to showcase the breadth of contemporary British comedy.
Hosted by Shabba Kariem, Upfront Comedy promises an evening that celebrates humour, personality and the power of live performance.
The event forms part of Wolverhampton Grand Theatre’s Black History Month programme and provides an opportunity to enjoy some of the country’s strongest comedic voices together on one stage.
Comedy has long played an important role in Black British culture, offering performers a way to reflect on everyday life, identity, race, family and society while bringing audiences together through shared experience and laughter.
Taking place on Sunday 4th October 2026, Upfront Comedy promises a lively night at one of Wolverhampton’s best-known cultural venues.
The show begins at 7:30pm and is scheduled to finish at approximately 10:00pm.
