Afro-Brazilian Fusion Dance

Thursday 9th June

Afro-Brazilian dance workshop with performer, teacher and choreographer Adriano Oliveira.

Afro-Brazilian dance was first created by the enslaved Africans of Brazil’s colonial era. The mixture of its steps and the rhythms brought by the Africans, with the indigenous Indian and the southern European influences were essential to the vitality of this Brazilian dance.

Performer, teacher and choreographer Adriano Oliveira is professionally trained in traditional West-African and Afro-Brazilian dance. He mixes different genres and styles of dance, such as contemporary, modern, and traditional West-African, but he always remains faithful to his Afro-Brazilian roots. His dance company Axè Odara is known across Brazil for its experimental research in Afro-Brazilian culture.
