Widely regarded as one of the leading jazz artists of his generation, Watson has shaped the sound of modern jazz over a career spanning more than four decades. A multi-GRAMMY-nominated musician, he first rose to prominence as <strong>musical director of Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers (1977–1981)</strong>, contributing to more recordings than any other member in the group’s history.
Performing with his outstanding quartet, Watson brings a rich and dynamic style rooted in <strong>post-bop jazz</strong>, combining technical brilliance with expressive, soulful playing. His work bridges tradition and innovation, reflecting influences from across the jazz spectrum.
Over the years, he has collaborated with jazz greats including <strong>Max Roach, George Coleman and Sam Rivers</strong>, as well as renowned vocalists such as <strong>Betty Carter, Dianne Reeves and Joe Williams</strong>. As a bandleader, his acclaimed group <em>Horizon</em> helped define the jazz sound of the 1980s and 1990s.
With a discography of more than 40 albums, including the GRAMMY-nominated <em>Tailor Made</em> and the celebrated <em>Love Remains</em>, Watson continues to perform and record at the highest level, bringing depth, history and innovation to every performance.
