Where Would Reggae Be If It Were Not For Migration?
Would reggae music have been a global musical genre, if it had not been for the forced migration of Africans from Africa to the Caribbean, and their voluntary migration to Britain? What role did British-based individuals and music businesses play in turning reggae from a potentially localised Caribbean genre into a global music genre? History consultant Kwaku posits that without the latter, reggae could have remained another niche genre.
Event starts with a screening of a mash up video, which takes the story from Africa, through Jamaica, Britain, to the global market that’s been conquered by reggae!
