Sat 29 October 2016 14:00 – 16:00

As part of Leicester’s African Caribbean communities celebrations for Black History Month, Gloria Cameron will be reading extracts form her autobiography, ‘Case Dismissed! An Ordinary Jamaican Woman: An Extraordinary Life.’ Arriving in England during the 1950’s, Gloria became a Justice of the Peace in the 1970’s, and devoted her life to her local community. Passionate about supporting children, she began fostering and also set up a Nursery in Brixton in 1983. She received national recognition for her work from Her Majesty the Queen with the award of an MBE, and a Medal of Appreciation from the Jamaican Prime Minister, Edward Seaga. Gloria’s book charts her journey from a Jamaican childhood, her community work, through difficult times arising from a court case, up to the present day.

“This was a book I had to write because I felt compelled to give people an insight into how false accusations not only challenge your very existence, but have an enormous impact on family and friends.  I was also conscious that my life story can contribute to preserving our visual and oral history for the next generation. I really hope my story resonates with people everywhere and inspires them to pursue their passion and to become successful individuals”.
