Afro-Brazilian Fusion Dance

Thursday 15th December

Afro-Brazilian dance was first created by the enslaved Africans of Brazil’s colonial era. The mixture of its steps, and of the rhythms brought by the Africans, with the indigenous Indians and the southern Europeans influences were essential to the vitality of this Brazilian dance.

Performer, Teacher and Choreographer, Adriano Oliveira is professionally trained in both traditional West-African and Afro-Brazilian dance, as one of the dance members of Brazilian dance company “Axè Odara” known across all of Brazil for its experimental research in Afro-Brazilian culture.

He mixes different genres and styles of dance such as contemporary, modern, and traditional West-African but he always remains faithful to his Afro-Brazilian roots.
