On Demand: Sheku Kanneh-Mason performs Dvorák’s Cello Concerto
1-30 June 2021
Needing no introduction, cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason will draw all the nostalgic romanticism from Dvořák’s Cello Concerto, given here in a specially commissioned slightly reduced instrumentation by George Morton to accommodate the present restrictions.
Written a surprise Christmas present for his wife, and to celebrate the birth of their new son Siegfried, Richard Wagner gave the first performance of Siegfried Idyll with just 13 players outside her bedroom door 150 years ago!
The concert will be available to watch from 7pm on Tuesday 1 June, preceded by a live preconcert talk on Zoom at 7pm with BBC Radio 3 broadcaster and author Stephen Johnson, and a post-concert Zoom q and a session with musicians, conductors and staff in a sort of ‘post-match analysis’, where you can ask questions and participate. Further information on how to join the Zoom will be sent to you after you purchase a ticket.
