Join V.O.W.S Community Enterprise for Survival, an annual community celebration honouring the Windrush Generation and recognising the pioneers whose contributions helped shape modern Britain.
Held on the weekend of Windrush Day, this special event brings together families, friends and community members to celebrate Caribbean heritage through music, fashion, food and culture. It is an opportunity to pay tribute to the men and women who travelled from the Caribbean to Britain and whose hard work, resilience and determination helped build communities across the country.
Described by the organisers as a Glitz & Glamour occasion, the evening combines entertainment, community spirit and cultural celebration in honour of the Windrush pioneers. Guests are encouraged to dress for the occasion and enjoy an evening dedicated to recognising the sacrifices and achievements of those who helped shape modern Britain.
The programme will feature performances from some of Birmingham’s finest artists and DJs, including DJ Belly/Gemini Don, DJ Levi Onedrop Washington, DJ Mr Sweettouch and DJ Archie Dee. Throughout the evening, guests can enjoy a soundtrack of classic Caribbean music while celebrating the rich cultural traditions of the Windrush generation.
Caribbean cuisine will be available on the night, alongside displays of art and fashion that reflect the creativity and influence of Caribbean culture. The event is designed to bring generations together, creating a space where elders, families and younger community members can connect, share stories and celebrate their shared heritage.
As well as marking the 78th anniversary of the arrival of HMT Empire Windrush, the evening will also celebrate Father’s Day, recognising the fathers, grandfathers and community role models whose influence continues to shape family and community life.
V.O.W.S Community Enterprise is particularly encouraging elders aged 85 and over to attend with family and friends as honoured guests, ensuring that the pioneering generation remains at the heart of the celebration.
