Celebrating Black History Month 2025 with Author and Historian Diego Ife

Friday 10 October

St John’s Wood Library presents a special Black History Month 2025 event with author and historian Diego Ife. This evening offers an opportunity to reflect, learn, and engage with vital conversations about Black history, culture, and lived experience.

Diego Ife is the author of Escapism and the Black Burden, a powerful work that explores themes of identity, resilience, and the struggle for freedom. His writing examines the weight of history while highlighting the importance of imagination and creativity as tools of resistance and survival.

In this talk, Ife will share insights from his research and writing, offering both a historical and contemporary lens on the challenges faced by Black communities. He will also discuss the ways storytelling can preserve memory, reclaim narratives, and inspire future generations.

The event will include a reading from Escapism and the Black Burden, followed by an open discussion and Q&A session. This is a chance for audiences to engage directly with the author, ask questions, and reflect on the broader themes of his work.

Taking place during Black History Month, this event is both a celebration and an act of remembrance. It invites all attendees to deepen their understanding of Black history and culture while connecting with a leading voice in contemporary scholarship and literature.
