St John’s Hospital, Lichfield: a Black and White Medieval Cemetery

Recent building work encountered part of a medieval cemetery at St John’s Almshouses in Lichfield, which included at least two black people of African descent. This fascinating discovery challenges many preconceptions about medieval society and even perhaps what it is to be British.
