Ahmed Fakroun

Thursday 2 September 2021

Born in the Libyan City of Benghazi, Ahmed Fakroun looked set to make his mark in world music circles in the mid-1980s when is album Mots D’Amour, combining traditional Arab melodies with electronic music, was released on the Celluloid label in France.

Years of international sanctions impeded Libyan citizens’ freedom of movement and he spent long periods abroad in the 70s and 80s.

However, in the last ten years he has come to prominence on the club scene when some of his early songs were rediscovered, re-edited and reissued anonymously by DJs and label owners.

Now enjoying long overdue success for his work, we are proud to present Ahmed at the Jazz Cafe for his debut UK show.
