Artes Mundi International Art Prize and Exhibition

Thu 17 Nov - 14:00 – 16:00

Every two years the Artes Mundi Exhibition and Prize brings some of the world’s best contemporary art to Cardiff. The award of £40,000 is the largest prize in the UK and will be awarded in January 2017.Although this is a well established, international exhibition and prize, it is surprisingly low profile. This event seeks to remedy that. This year there are 7 artists shortlisted: John Akomfrah (UK), Neil Beloufa (France/ Algeria), Amy Franceschini/ Futurefarms (USA/Belgium), Lamia Joreiza (Lebanon), Bedwyr Williams (UK/Wales), Nastia Mosquito (Angola), and Hito Steyerl (Germany).

A bespoke tour has been put together by the Artes Mundi curators, which will give an introduction to the exhibition and prize, and an indepth tour of the various exhibition entries. (Please note that the last 2 artists are located at the Chapter Arts Centre, 40 Market St, Cardiff CF5 1QE and if members wish to view these, they will have to do it independently). At the end of the tour, there will be an opportunity to react to the exhibition, and take part in a short workshop. The museum is fully accessible.
