The Hidden Science of Reggae

Saturday 20th June 2026

Join The Hidden Science Academy for a powerful and thought-provoking event exploring the deep cultural, historical and social impact of reggae music and Caribbean heritage on British society.

The Hidden Science of Reggae offers a unique experience that goes beyond music, examining how the Windrush generation shaped Black British culture and how reggae became a defining force in movements for social justice, identity and resistance.

Through a series of talks, presentations and discussions, the event explores the evolution of reggae from early calypso influences to the emergence of distinctly British genres such as lovers rock and 2-tone, highlighting the role of music in shaping community, culture and political expression.

Led by a line-up of speakers including historians, cultural commentators and researchers, the programme also examines topics such as the influence of sound system culture, the legacy of the Windrush generation, and the wider impact of Caribbean music on British society.

The event is designed as both an educational and immersive experience, combining historical insight with cultural reflection, and offering audiences a deeper understanding of reggae’s enduring influence.
