Black Men’s Theatre Performance about Mental Health & Suicide

Tuesday 11th February - Saturday 15th February

An interactive performance about Mental Health, Depression & Suicide

About this Event

GET INVOLVED, CHANGE THE OUTCOME, WE INVITE YOU TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE OF BLACK MEN’S EXPERIENCES OF THE MENTAL HEALTH SYSTEM IN THE UK.

Social Justice Arts practitioner Tony Cealy has been working with middle aged black men with experience of suicide and and depression. The event will start with a sharing of a short thought-provoking performance of the causes that lie behind this deeply important issue.

Produced over the previous few weeks, this will be some of the mens’ first experience of performing. The performance will be a creative catalyst for an interactive debate and panel discussion (panel to be confirmed).

The aim of the event is to ask ‘what we can do differently to challenge black mens experience within mental health’ and ‘what systems and policies need to change to help our fellow citizens’?

What happens when 25 Black Men with lived experience of emotional health issues commit to sharing their thoughts and feelings with one another and decide to be creative in a small rehearsal room?

They have given up their time, shared their skills and talents and no fronting, no masks, just being real, all able to be themselves and show their emotions and vulnerabilities.

They shared stories of experiences that made them who they are today. They are passionate about breaking the cycle and stigma of Mental Illness and Suicide.
We want you to be engaged, educated, inspired, empowered, informed and healed in some way during and after experiencing this performance event.
We want you to experience what we have experienced!
