What is the experience of Black men in Britain? Poetic voices featured in anthology SAFE: On Black British Men Reclaiming Space present an evening of poetry, discussion and music.
The event is hosted by writer, poet and editor of the anthology, Derek Owusu.
Including essays from top poets, writers, musicians, actors and journalists, this timely and accessible book brings together a selection of powerful reflections exploring the Black British male experience and what it really means to reclaim and hold space in the landscape of our society.
SAFE: On Black British Men Reclaiming Space takes readers on a rich path to confront and question the position of Black men in Britain today, and shines a light on the way forward.
Derek Owusu is a writer and poet. He discovered his passion for literature aged 23 – before then, he had never read a book cover to cover.
In 2016 he became part of the multi-award-winning literature podcast Mostly Lit, and has since worked the This Is Spoke podcast for Penguin Random House, and has had poetry and prose published by The Good Journal, Media Diversified and Waterstones, among others.
He is currently working on a book of poems based on media and life in London called That Reminds Me.
