Calema are a duo music duo from São Tomé and Príncipe with origins in Portugal formed by the two brothers António Mendes Ferreira and Fradique Mendes Ferreira. The name of the duo refers to the special undulation on the African coast
They started singing together at a very young age as they took music as a hobby. In 2008 they came to Portugal to pursue their professional degrees on the music industry. In 2011 they went to France with their family and kept on doing music, as they created their cover channel on YouTube.
With over 345 million views on YouTube and 51 million streams on Spotify, the duo are going from strength to strength. Their hit “A nossa vez” reached 80 million views on YouTube making it the most viewed video in Portuguese language in 2017.
They have 2 Number 1 songs on Spotify Portugal and YouTube, and were the sole artists at the MTV 2020 with 6 nominations. They are also leading with 3 nominations for the 2021 MTV Africa Music Awards.
