WE DEYA is a multi-arts, interactive performance piece developed and performed by Writerz & Scriberz, exploring Windrush stories.
WE DEYA is a multi-arts, interactive performance combining film, sound, performance poetry, and storytelling. It weaves interview and documentary with live performance, creating moments for the audience to reflect and respond to the stories of the Windrush generation and their descendants.
This piece has been developed by second generation Caribbean artists who have collected stories from local elders through one to one interviews and group workshops, focusing on and where joy was found during a hostile environment. It explores the themes of arrival and prolonged stay, and how communities are built, sustained and celebrated.
Writerz & Scribez are an innovative creative arts company using art as a tool for social change. Russenï Fisher is an explosive actor & poet with unique performance abilities. An acclaimed spoken word artist, he has featured widely, including events at the Olympic Park, Southbank and as opening act for The Last Poets at the Love Box Festival. As an actor, Russeni has worked extensively with London Bubble Theatre where he developed a passion for creating topical, interactive theatre based on real life experiences.
Jemilea Wisdom Baako is a British-Jamaican poet, writer and facilitator, shortlisted for the Rebecca Swift Poetry Prize, Bridport Prize and recipient of the London Writers Award for Poetry. She has performed widely, including City Hall, Hackney Empire and Southbank Centre and her work is published in Magma, Poetry London and elsewhere. Currently working on her first poetry pamphlet, her work centres themes of cultural heritage, faith, and becoming.
Shade’ Joseph is a British-Caribbean writer, musician and music producer. Over the past 8 years she has performed poetry in various arts, public, and corporate spaces across the UK and has musically accompanied, composed and produced for spoken word poets, music artists and theatre plays.
