Virtual Event : Can you support children of Black, Asian and mixed heritage to value their cultural identity through fostering?

Wednesday 23rd October

Join us to learn more about becoming a foster carer who can make a difference, regardless of your cultural background!

At Nexus Fostering, we believe every child deserves to feel proud of who they are. For children from diverse backgrounds, cultural identity plays a crucial role in their development, well-being, and sense of belonging. Ideally, children in care should be placed with foster carers who share their cultural background. This provides them with an environment where their traditions, values, and beliefs are understood and reflected, helping them maintain a strong connection to their heritage.

However, across the UK, there is a shortage of foster carers from all communities. This creates a pressing need for foster carers from all backgrounds who are open to learning about, supporting, and celebrating a child’s cultural identity, even if they don’t share it themselves.

In this virtual event:
  • We will chat about the importance of culturally matched homes for foster children.
  • Hear real life experiences from our foster carers and staff about why it is important to support children embrace their identity and heritage.
  • Learn how foster carers from different cultural backgrounds can learn, understand, and support a child’s culture to create a nurturing environment.
  • The training and resources available from Nexus Fostering to support you on your fostering journey.

Whether you share the same background or come from a different one, this event will guide you on how you can make a meaningful impact in the lives of children in care by supporting their cultural heritage.
