ADANNA Women’s Support Group Windrush Day Event

2CB3MKN Men, women and children from the Caribbean arrive at Southampton in 1962 at the invitation of the British Government to help with rebuilding Britain after World War II. These people became the Windrush Generation due to their treatment by the British Home Office under a hostile environment policy where employers and other organisations were required to ask for visas.

Join ADANNA Women’s Support Group for a special Windrush Day celebration honouring the legacy, contributions and enduring impact of the Windrush generation.

 

This community event brings people together to reflect on the journeys, experiences and achievements of those who helped shape modern Britain. Through music, storytelling and shared experiences, attendees will have the opportunity to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Caribbean communities and recognise the lasting influence of the Windrush generation on British society.

The programme will feature inspiring guest speakers sharing personal stories, reflections and insights on heritage, identity and legacy. Their experiences will provide a powerful reminder of the resilience, determination and community spirit that continue to inspire future generations.

Designed as a welcoming and inclusive event, the day also offers opportunities to connect with others, engage in meaningful conversations and celebrate the strength and diversity of the local community.
