Let’s talk about the Story of Windrush!

An evening with Author Kandace Chimbiri who will share some nuggets from her book, The Story of the Windrush, followed by music of that era.

The Event

We will hear from author Kandace Chimbiri who has written a book called The story of the Windrush which is a tribute to the Caribbean pioneers who emigrated to Britain between 1947 and 1972.
Windrush marked the beginning of modern Black Britain and this will be the focus of the evening and will give you an opportunity to hear about some of the events around this historical event.
We will also be entertained by listening to music that was played during that era.

The Speaker

Kandace Chimbiri is the author of four self-published Black history books for children; Secrets of the Afro Comb,6,000 Years of Art and Culture (2013), The Story of Early Ancient Egypt (2011), Step Back in Time to Ancient Kush activity book (2009) and The Story of the Windrush (2018).
Kandace was born in London, England in 1968 to parents from Barbados.
Motivated by a desire to help improve both children’s literacy as well as their knowledge of history, Kandace focuses on books with facts for children, in particular less well-known Black history before mass enslavement.

The Host

The webinar will be hosted by members of Vibes Music Lounge. Vibes Music Lounge is a registered Community Interest Company with an objective to:
Provide virtual music to promote positive mental wellbeing within the community and to
Provide informed cultural education on a variety of topics in order to raise awareness
Vibes Music Lounge uses a cloud-based video conference service to provide a safe space for community members to network whilst listening to various genres of music including Reggae, Soul, RnB and Soca.
We aim to provide an inclusive and interactive platform where people can build support networks, indulge in music therapy with the intent of promoting a positive mental outlook on life and to be able to listen to webinars covering a variety of topics from experts within their field.
