Get Up, Stand Up! The Bob Marley Musical

Sunday 20th March - Sunday 3th April 2022

A bold new musical is honouring the Jamaican reggae superstar Bob Marley, whose indelible songs and rebellious spirit continue to inspire millions around the world. Featuring all the big hits, including “No Woman, No Cry,” this promises to be a new West End favourite. Don’t miss out: Get Up, Stand Up tickets are available on London Theatre now.

Marley’s life story is an extraordinary one, so the Get Up, Stand Up musical will be a riveting drama as well as a musical celebration. The artist began playing at a young age, inspired by a combination of Jamaican ska music and the R&B that he heard on US radio stations. With his group the Wailers, he became a pioneer of reggae — and then a global star when Eric Clapton covered “I Shot the Sheriff,” reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100. That was followed by the huge success of “No Woman, No Cry.”

However, it wasn’t all smooth sailing for Marley. He survived an attempt on his life, which led to him leaving Jamaica — although he later returned to perform at a concert attempting to broker political peace. His hit single “One Love” exemplifies that ethos, and will also feature in the Get Up, Stand Up West End production. Marley tragically died of cancer in 1981, departing with the wise words “Money can’t buy life.”

Clint Dyer, deputy artistic director of the National Theatre, will direct this exciting new show, which has a book by Lee Hall (Billy Elliot, Rocketman) and is led by Arinzé Kene as Bob Marley. Kene was Olivier Award nominated for his play Misty and his performance in Death of a Salesman, and played another iconic musician, Sam Cooke, in the play One Night in Miami.

The Get Up, Stand Up London production has the blessing of Marley’s family — and full access to his incomparable back catalogue. Plan your trip now and buy your Get Up, Stand Up tickets, available to book on London Theatre.
