Black Heritage Voices 2025

Tuesday 11 November

Black Heritage Voices is a sector-focused conference bringing together professionals from across the heritage landscape who are working with—or are interested in—Black archives. From archivists and researchers to community artists, audience engagement specialists, Black History Month programmers and sector leaders, the event offers space for cross-disciplinary dialogue and exchange.

Centred on the themes of creativity, digital innovation and reframing narratives, the programme invites participants to explore how we can shift perspectives, challenge institutional norms and open up heritage spaces to new ways of thinking and working.

Black Heritage Voices recognises the power of archives not just as repositories of history, but as dynamic tools for storytelling, cultural affirmation and social change. Through panels, case studies and workshops, the event creates a platform to examine how we document, interpret and share Black experiences in ways that are both authentic and imaginative.

The conference also champions collaborative practice—highlighting the importance of working with communities, using accessible technologies and embracing artistic methods that breathe new life into archival work.

It is not just about visibility, but about transformation—changing the gaze and shaping a more equitable heritage sector.
