City of London: Slave Trade Money Trail Tour

Saturday 24th October 2026

Join Black Rooted for a powerful and eye-opening walking tour uncovering the financial foundations of the transatlantic slave trade in the heart of London.

This guided experience traces the hidden “money trail” through the City of London, revealing how major institutions, merchants and financial systems profited from the exploitation of African people. The tour highlights how wealth generated through slavery flowed through banks, insurance companies and trading houses, shaping the development of modern Britain.

Led by expert guides, the walk explores key historic locations including the Royal Exchange, Lloyd’s of London and surrounding financial districts, bringing to light stories often overlooked in mainstream narratives. Participants will gain insight into how the transatlantic slave trade became one of Britain’s most profitable industries and how its legacy continues to influence society today.

The tour also centres Black resistance and the lived experiences of enslaved Africans, offering a deeper understanding of the human impact behind the wealth and institutions that still define the City.

Blending history, education and critical reflection, this walking tour provides a meaningful way to engage with Black British history, particularly during Black History Month.
