Black Heroes Soul Food Café – Celebrating Bromley’s Black Heroes

Tuesday 14 July 2026

Join the Black Heroes Foundation for a special edition of its popular Black Heroes Soul Food Café, celebrating Black achievement, local history and community pride as part of the Bromley Little Theatre Community Festival.

This welcoming evening brings together storytelling, music, spoken word, film and community reflection to honour the lives and achievements of remarkable Black figures connected to Bromley and South London. Through inspiring performances and conversations, the event shines a light on pioneers from theatre, literature, music, sport and public life, including Ira Aldridge, Malorie Blackman, Dina Asher-Smith, Poly Styrene, Junior Crooks, Rio Ferdinand and David Haye.

Presented during the Black Heroes Foundation’s tenth anniversary year, the event also supports fundraising for a Blue Plaque commemorating Flip Fraser, founder of The Voice newspaper and creator of Black Heroes in the Hall of Fame. Founded by Joyce Fraser OBE, the Black Heroes Foundation continues to celebrate Black history throughout the year by preserving and sharing the stories of inspirational individuals whose contributions have helped shape British society.

Audiences can expect an uplifting evening of history, heritage, live music, spoken word, audience participation and community celebration in a relaxed theatre setting. Open to people of all ages and backgrounds, Black Heroes Soul Food Café offers an engaging opportunity to discover local Black history while celebrating culture, creativity and community.
