Explore Bristol’s influential jungle and early drum and bass culture through an exhibition of poster designs inspired by the movement’s original cut-and-paste style.
Presented by I46media, this exhibition celebrates the creativity, energy and independent spirit of Bristol’s original jungle generation.
The poster designs are inspired by the handmade cut-and-paste graphics associated with early jungle and drum and bass culture. Before digital design became widely available, underground music events were often promoted through photocopied flyers, bold typography, collage and imagery assembled by hand.
The exhibition explores the rise of jungle music and its development from an underground movement into a sound with global influence.
Bristol and the St Pauls community played an important part in that story. The city’s sound-system culture, clubs, DJs, musicians, promoters, designers and audiences helped create an environment in which jungle and drum and bass could grow.
Through its poster artwork, This Is Jungle takeover celebrates both the music and the visual culture that surrounded it.
The exhibition offers visitors an opportunity to discover how graphic design helped communicate the excitement and identity of the original scene, while recognising Bristol’s continuing contribution to jungle and drum and bass culture.
The exhibition is displayed in the Community Café at St Pauls Learning Centre and can only be viewed during the café’s opening hours.
