Family Festival & Interactive Experience – Glasgow

Families and young people are invited to a free day of technology, sports and discovery at Glasgow’s Army Reserve Centre on Saturday 24 October.

Taking place during Black History Month, the Family Festival & Interactive Experience will bring together families, teenagers and community groups from across Glasgow for a day of hands-on activities and conversation.

Hosted by the British Army at the Army Reserve Centre on Crow Road, Broomhill, the event runs from 9am to 4pm, with free admission and complimentary food, refreshments and soft drinks throughout the day.

In his invitation, Sgt Oluwagbenga Daniels, from the British Army’s Recruiting Group in Scotland, said:

“It is designed to be a high-energy, inspiring day out giving teenagers a hands-on look at future skills and funded career paths, while providing families with a fantastic day of free activities and hospitality.”

Technology, teamwork and discovery

Visitors can explore interactive technology and STEM activities, including immersive virtual reality experiences, drone demonstrations and engineering challenges.

There will also be obstacle courses, team sports and fitness activities, alongside free prize giveaways.

An informal space will give young people and their families the opportunity to meet serving soldiers from diverse backgrounds and faiths. Visitors can hear about their experiences and ask questions about life in the Army.

Bringing Glasgow’s communities together

The invitation welcomes Glasgow’s schools, community organisations and faith groups, encouraging them to share the event with pupils, families and their wider networks.

Sgt Daniels added:

“We deeply value Glasgow’s vibrant, multi-faith fabric and want to ensure your families are right at the heart of this celebration.”

Organisers have said that a range of dietary requirements will be catered for.

Exploring future opportunities

For teenagers considering their next steps, the event will provide information about Army careers, training, apprenticeships and degree opportunities.

Visitors can explore more than 150 roles across seven career areas: Engineering; Intelligence, Communications and IT; Medical and Healthcare; Logistics and Support; HR, Finance and Business; Combat; and Music.
