Identity, Beauty, History and Belonging
Throughout her career, Joy Gregory has explored questions of identity, representation, beauty, history and belonging.
Her work draws on a wide range of techniques and materials, moving between historic photographic processes, contemporary digital media, textiles, installation and performance.
The exhibition highlights a practice that has continually challenged expectations about what photography can be and how images can be used to explore personal, cultural and historical experience.
Expanding the Possibilities of Photography
Catching Flies with Honey gives visitors the chance to experience the breadth of Gregory’s work across different periods and artistic forms.
By combining traditional photographic techniques with newer technologies and other creative disciplines, Gregory has developed a body of work that pushes beyond conventional definitions of photography.
Presented as part of Bristol Photo Festival, the exhibition offers an opportunity to discover an artist whose work examines how we see ourselves, how we are represented and how histories and identities are remembered.
Entry to the Arnolfini galleries is free, and no advance booking is required.
