Educators, community representatives and leaders come together at the Ulster Museum to explore Black history, racial justice and the transformative power of education.
Presented by the North West Migrants Forum, the Black History Month Summit 2026 will bring people together for a day of learning, discussion and practical activity under the theme Learning Together: Knowledge Changes Everything.
The annual summit will explore how education can deepen understanding of Black history, strengthen communities and contribute to a more equal and inclusive society.
This year’s keynote speaker is Professor Wayne A. I. Frederick, M.D., MBA, President Emeritus of Howard University. Professor Frederick will bring an international perspective to conversations about education, leadership and racial equity.
The summit will also have a strong practical focus for educators, with two interactive workshops designed to strengthen teachers’ knowledge and confidence when introducing Black history in the classroom.
The sessions will consider:
- Ways to introduce Black history across the curriculum
- How educators can develop their own knowledge and understanding
- Approaches to difficult or sensitive subjects
- How inclusive resources can support meaningful learning
- The role of education in challenging racism and inequality
Confirmed speakers and contributors include:
- Professor Wayne A. I. Frederick, M.D., MBA – President Emeritus of Howard University
- Dr Naomi Green – researcher, lecturer and community advocate
- Charlotte Carson – National Education Union Northern Ireland
The summit offers educators, community organisations, policymakers and members of the public an opportunity to exchange knowledge, build relationships and consider how education can help create a fairer and more inclusive future.
Registration is required using the online form.
