Bald Black Girl(s) – Cleaning Our Home Poetry Workshop

Sun, 4 October 2020 11:00 – 13:00

Join acclaimed writer Belinda Zhawi in an intimate poetry workshop exploring memory and displacement.

This workshop will allow you to explore the push and pull of the ideas around home and the role of memory. Using the exhibition and the work of Black women poets as stimulus, you will be encouraged to explore ekphrasis and cut-out techniques to create new poems. Come and explore the intimacies and dissonances we experience in the places we come from and live – from our borders to our bedrooms via our bodies.

Belinda Zhawi is a Zimbabwean born writer & educator currently based in London. She was the 2016/17 Institute of Contemporary Arts Associate Poet, the 2019 Serpentine Galleries’ Schools Artist in Residence & is the co-founder of, literary arts platform, BORN::FREE. Belinda experiments with sound as MA.MOYO, & heavily collaborates within the ever-growing South London jazz & beat-making scene. She’s been featured on various platforms including Boiler Room, BBC Radio, Worldwide FM & performed across Europe & Africa. Belinda is the author of Small Inheritances (ignitionpress, 2018).
