On Thursday, April 17, 2025, the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge will host “Meet the Artist: Keith Piper,” a talk by the renowned British artist, curator, researcher, and academic. Born in 1960 in Malta to Caribbean parents, Piper grew up in Birmingham and was a founding member of the BLK Art Group, which played a pivotal role in the Black British arts movement during the early 1980s. His work spans various media, including painting, photography, installation, and digital technologies, addressing themes of racial, gender, and class identity.

The event aligns with the museum’s exhibition “Rise Up: Resistance, Revolution, Abolition,” running from February 21 to June 1, 2025. This exhibition delves into the history of resistance against transatlantic slavery, featuring over 100 curated artworks and artifacts. Piper’s contributions offer contemporary perspectives on these narratives, emphasizing the importance of recognizing historical injustices and the resilience of affected communities.

Tickets for the event are priced at £5.00 and can be booked through the University of Cambridge Museums’ ticketing system. Given the event’s proximity, it’s advisable to secure your tickets promptly.
