SACCO’s Proud to Be Launch of Black History Month

Saturday 2 October 2021

Black British History month was first celebrated in London in 1987, as part of African Jubilee Year.

34 years later and Black History Month is more relevant now than ever. The global responses to the murder of George Floyd, the national outcry with Wendy Williams report on the Windrush Scandal and the controversial Commission on Race and Ethnic Disparities Report all share a common theme in their demand for greater knowledge of African Caribbean’s contribution to British society as a way forward in dismantling racism in society.

Come and join us for an exciting afternoon of performances to kick start and celebrate Black History Month our keynote speech by Prof Tony Leiba along with poetry, singing and music by DJ Random, enjoy Caribbean cuisine and some wonderful raffle prizes to be won.

SACCO will be hosting an array of events for the whole family during the month of October celebrating the contributions of the Black British Community to society in the fields of art, music, theatre, politics, science and technology. Please see further listings on Eventbright or our website www.sacco.org.uk
