75 Ways to Celebrate Windrush75 in Just One Day

Saturday 14th October

Hines Designs is determined that this year will be a year of celebrations and acknowledging the contributions of those hundreds of Windrush Pioneers who landed at Tilbury docks 75 years ago, and their descendants to British life as we know it.

They will continue the celebrations in a unique way – an all-day event entitled, “75 Ways to Celebrate Windrush75 in Just One Day”, 14 October, Woolwich Works, The Fireworks Factory, SE18 6HD.

Across the country this historic event was commemorated throughout the month of June, but to ensure it is recognised as a milestone in British history, one organiser, Hines Designs, has come up with a unique way to cement this as a historical event in the Black History Month calendar and beyond.

22 June 2023, marked 75 Years since the landing of Empire Windrush at Tilbury docks.

This is the ship which brought the largest groups of migrants, British citizens from the Commonwealth to the UK.

Despite the hostile welcome which greeted them, they and their descendants have made an indelible mark on British life.

Following decades working in corporate world, Michelle has now embarked on realising her passion for arranging events at community level which celebrate her Afro-Caribbean culture.

“75 Ways to Celebrate Windrush75 in Just One Day”! will feature Caribbean Lunch and also the largest Caribbean Afternoon Tea Party in the country; Rum Cocktail BarClassical music from musicians from Chineke Orchestra, the most diverse orchestra in the UK and also from the Royal College of Music; a show of lovingly restored classic cars and high performance vehicles on display by Windrush Legacy owners; Children’s activities; a vibrant Art Exhibition, to name but a few activities.

Guests will also be able to live like the Royals, by hiring their own personal butler, who’s worked for VIPs and the Royal Household.

For Hines Designs this is its first major event, but the desire is to make it one of the most Caribbean led sustainable events in the UK’s annual calendar.

“75 Ways to Celebrate Windrush75 in Just One Day”! will, wherever possible, minimise the use of non-reusable plastic waste and aims to use recyclable materials and local providers to reduce carbon emissions.

Sustainability will be at the heart of this celebration, with many of the sponsors with businesses whose philosophy is also based on being environmentally friendly.

“This would not have been possible without the generous support of our sponsors”, says Michelle, who goes on to say.

“Many thanks to Delgety Teas, Jamaica Rum Vibes, Eurobottle & Design, Red Fox’s Kitchen, Alando Spaulding Professional Butler Services & Woolwich Works.”
