Celebrating Black History Month Pop Up Market in West Norwood

Saturday 4 October

This October, My Pop Up Events marks 77 years of Windrush in Lambeth by celebrating and empowering Black businesses across the globe. As part of Black History Month, we are proud to host two vibrant pop-up markets in the heart of West Norwood, shining a spotlight on creativity, talent, and entrepreneurship within African and Caribbean communities.

The Windrush generation made a profound contribution to Britain after arriving in response to a government call for workers to help rebuild the post-war economy. Though many were highly educated, they often faced discrimination and found work in manual labour, transport, cleaning, and nursing roles, particularly in the newly established NHS. Their legacy lives on today, and this event pays tribute to their resilience and achievements.

My Pop Up Events has created a platform that not only commemorates this national milestone but also provides opportunities for Black-owned businesses to thrive. Traders will have the chance to share their craft, connect with new customers, and showcase their work to a wider audience. It’s a celebration of heritage, creativity, and economic empowerment.

Visitors can look forward to discovering a wide array of products, from fashion, jewellery, hair and skin care, and wellbeing products to crafts, art, Guyanese food, and prints of iconic artists. Every stall tells its own story, and guests will be able to meet and connect with the business owners behind these unique creations.

Everyone is welcome to be part of this joyful celebration. Whether you are a shopper keen to support independent Black businesses or a trader of African or Caribbean descent looking to showcase your wares, this event offers an inspiring space to celebrate culture, community, and creativity.
