Black History Month Cookery Course

Tuesday 6th, 13th, 20th & 27th October 2026

Black History Month Cookery Course celebrates the cultures and culinary traditions of the African diaspora through a four-week programme at Leicester’s African Caribbean Centre.

Food provides a powerful way of exploring history, migration and cultural exchange. Recipes carried between generations often preserve stories about family, community and movement while revealing connections between countries and cultures across the world.

During October, participants will explore a different culinary tradition each week.

The programme begins with East African cuisine on Tuesday 6th October, followed by Afro-Latin cooking on Tuesday 13th October, Caribbean cuisine on Tuesday 20th October and West African food on Tuesday 27th October.

Each workshop provides an opportunity to learn practical cooking skills while discovering more about the ingredients, traditions and cultural influences behind the dishes being prepared.

The programme reflects the extraordinary diversity of the African diaspora and demonstrates how food traditions have travelled, developed and influenced cuisines across continents.

Whether you are an experienced cook or simply interested in trying something new, the course provides a welcoming and practical way to participate in Black History Month 2026.
