Wednesday 18th October

Humanities photos = See Mark Barnett

This panel discussion brings together professionals and users of archives to discuss the experiences of people of colour.

The field of archives is predominantly white, both in terms of researchers using archives, depositors giving materials to archives and people working in archives. This panel discussion brings together professionals and users of archives to discuss the experiences of people of colour, when encountering archives.

The panellists are:

  • Jenny Moran (panel chair) – is the Records Manager at DMU and has extensive experience working in the archives sector. She is also Diversity Lad on the Archives and Records Association Board.
  • Dr Lisa Palmer – is the Interim Director of The Stephen Lawrence Research Centre at DMU. She uses archives in her research and has also worked at the Library of Birmingham.
  • Marina Afonso – is an archivist currently working on a cataloguing project with us in Special Collections.
  • Holly Cooper – is currently working on a DPhil in History at the University of Oxford and is a Postgraduate Member of the Royal Historical Society (2022/23).

Ticket sales will close 1 hour before the event starts.

Please contact the DMU Events Office on eventsoffice@dmu.ac.uk if you have any questions.
