Sunday Piano Series – Jeneba Kanneh-Mason

Sunday 15th January

Jeneba Kanneh-Mason makes her first appearance in our series, following in the footsteps of her sister Isata in 2016.

A Keyboard Category Finalist in BBC Young Musician 2018, she made her BBC Proms debut with the Chineke! Orchestra in 2021. An often overlooked masterpiece, Beethoven’s seventh sonata saw a marked development in Beethoven’s writing as he began to suffer hearing loss.

It’s bookended by two visually evocative pieces. Rachmaninov said of his beautiful Études-Tableaux, No. 5 that the listener should “paint for themselves what it most suggests” whilst Debussy’s ‘prints’ portray more precise images of an exotic journey from the Far East to a French garden, via Spain.
