‘Reading Beyond’ is an informal reading group and forum part of the ongoing ‘Beyond Black History Month’ programme in collaboration with All Black Connect’s ‘Between The Lines Book Club’.
Join us for these critical conversations where we will collectively discuss texts by black authors that speak to socio-political urgencies, historical, and ecological themes related to black life. The chosen writings will flow between local, national, and global contexts to catalyse new perspectives and expand on existing knowledge within the group.
‘Pitch Black’ is a reading group and a panel discussion exploring the book Pitch Battles published in 2020 by former politician Peter Hain and activist Andre Odendaal. The book delves into the story of sport, racism and resistance in apartheid South Africa through the narratives of major events and the author’s personal testimonies.
